The Movie (2008)2009-09-17 00:00:00Do you hear that, Mr. Anderson? That is the sound of inevitability.<br /><br />Aaaactually, that's the sound of about 1 million WoW players screaming in orgasm and "wooting" around their living room and screaming "NOOB!" at their cat until their throats go raw. (The other 6 million are screaming in Chinese because they'll get a fraction of a cent raise from their gold farming jobs when the title hits the big screen.)<br />I doubt the cat cares. It'll just hide under the couch until the retardicane ebbs, lick it self clean of dust bunnies and then throw up mouse parts in their shoe. But me?<br />I care. I care a LOT. Why?<br />Because now I have to hear about it from every WoW fan who writes me and tells me that I didn't give it a fair review, that I am an SOE fan boy, and if EverQuest II is soooo great, where is *their* soon-to-be-blockbuster movie? To its community Warcraft getting a movie is the cherry on top of the heavily iced cupcake that is the ruling MMO.<br />Well then. Allow me to point out that nobody puts frigging cherries on cupcakes and lets get down to the good stuff shall we?<br />The Warcraft movie is going to be a shining beacon of awesomeness in a sea mediocre movies and boring sci-fi? I don't THINK so. Five little words to snap you out of your little victory dance there Pwnie Pwnerton;<br />"The Dungeons and Dragons Movie"<br /><br />Oh, that's right. I went there.<br />Do you even REMEMBER the Dungeons and Dragons movie? No, better yet - do you remember the hype *before* the Dungeons and Dragons movie? Geeks everywhere tittering with excitement and they rapidly change their underpants only to soil them in anticipation once again. This was going to be OUR movie. *OUR* time, our vindication to the world that we the geek were not only COOL, but what we LOVED was cool a...

Wow Account - Hard Modes2009-08-13 00:00:00Have you ever bought wow accounts? Hard modes are designed to give raiders something extra -- if you've conquered the normal modes of raids like Ulduar, hard modes are put in there by Blizzard to offer you some extra risk for a corresponding reward. But as they've become more and more routine, some raids are taking on the hard modes even before they've cleared the whole instance, leading up to a night of wiping on early hard modes, and then wiping on later progression. And wiping all night is never good for any raid's morale. Karl, writing over on the Wo...

Patch 3.12009-03-10 00:00:00Better watch your step. Eyonix dropped some more knowledge in regards to class specific changes scheduled for patch 3.1.0. Are you ready?
MAGE
Improved Water Elemental - this talent has been removed and replaced with a new talent that grants Replenishment (similar to Shadow priests).
We are also working on a way to give frost mages Ice Lance "Shatter combos" in PvE.
We are also working on more survivability for Fire spec in PvP.
We are also working on making Spirit a more useful and interesting stat for all mages.
PALADIN
Blessing of Kings - this spell is now a base ability trainable by all paladins.
Exorcism - this spell now causes damage to all types of enemy targets. However, it always critical strikes undead or demon targets. This change should make sure paladin damage doesn't drop when going from Naxxramas to later tiers of content.
Shield of the Templar now causes your Avenger's Shield and Shield of the Righteousness to silence targets for 3 sec. The old damage bonus of this talent has...

Jan 23rd, 2009
Yeah, we're going a little hefty this Friday (as in, low level, so not quite that phat), to focus on an item that's new, but only kind of, in patch 3.0.8.
Name: Mallet of Zul'Farrak (Wowhead, Thottbot, Armory)
Type: Quest Item Rare Unique One-hand Mace
Damage/Speed: 58-109 / 2.50 (33.4 DPS)
Abilities:
+8 Strength, +8 Stamina
Yes, this is the legendary Mallet of Zul'Farrak, the one you had to fight all the way up to the top of Jintha'alor to get in order to summon Gahz'rilla in the midlevel instance of Zul'Farrak down in Tanaris. But as of patch 3.0.8, this mallet, and a few other items, are now not nec...
Planting a Seed2009-03-10 00:00:00It seems that so many new games today are canceled before they really get off the ground. The latest in this exit stream is a game called Seed, a sci-fi non-combative, roleplay-centric MMORPG.
The goal in this game was the building of a society by means of socialization. Resources were extremely limited, so it was up to the players to decide how things should be allocated and built. The players had control of how far the society, and thus the game, went.
Todays market for MMORPGs hosts few blockbuster titles. Those that stand head and shoulders above the rest seem to be the ones that contain something for everyone. They contain combat, crafting, roleplaying, a player-driven economyevery playing style has their portion of the game that they can enjoy.
There are purely social games out there, There and the Sims, among others. They have no combat, they focus on the socialization and roleplaying of the players. What do they have that games, like Seed, do not? What could be done differently to encourage people away from the leveling grind of games like World of Warcraft? These are tough questions because they lead to an even tougher one. What makes a good game?
Ive offered three key elemen...
