I realize i'll do better in a prot sp, obviously, but in random pk-up builds for mid-level raidsinstaes where a tank is out of the question, would a holy spc'd paladin be able to tank efftively, or more efftively then a year and a half ago? That said, what is the fate for a holy paladin in endgame? What abilities in the holy tree define an endgame paladin? EDIT I'm a 43 paladin who goes swordshield and gears up for damage redtion.

The short answer: no. This is true starting around BRD. If you meant lower than that (whh there are no raids) then a Holyan do passively well as a tank. an endgame paladin? Fate for a healing sp? Um, I'd have to say healing =P Spifally you'll most often be healer for a spif tank and leave raid healing up to the otherlasses. You won't DPS as Holy sp in raids: just not gonna happen.
And tanking in raids isompletely out of the question. Even though you're in plate, you'd still get 1-2 shot. If Holy is what you want, be prepared to heal :) If you want to do something other than heal, start liking another tree.
